Computer Science Associations (ICARUS)

In a world of information computers are important devices for gathering information. The college has two well-equipped laboratories with 100 computers. Besides projects interested students are invited for a course of 120 hours in web designing. Students of the Computer Science take keen interest in numerous activities of the college

The Computer Science Association was formed by the faculty members and students of BCA Department. The Association encourages students to prove themselves through the annual technical and cultural festivals. In order to educate students for life, we involve them into issues of our society through Extension activities, visiting orphanages and old age homes. The College has signed a memorandum of understanding for placement of BCA students for the next 3 years since 2015 with “ADDON SOLUTIONS” to train and place our students. Our students also actively participate in various intra and inter-collegiate events.

The Department has 2 labs and almost 100 computers. The various additional courses we provide the students are Web Designing Course and Tally with a very reasonable fee structure, as the mission of the College is providing an accessible, affordable and relevant education through a policy of preferential option for the poor to improve the quality of life for all students and their communities.

ICARUS –Computer Science Association organized its first event Pick and Act (Only IT terms) on 14th July 2016, the event provided a platform for students to explore and learn new Computer Science terms as it was an open event for all Departments.

On 29th July 2016 was “Presentation Contest”, the participants with their PowerPoint presentations presented topics of their own passion. The winners of the Competition will be sent to represent our College for “Massive Talkathon” contest held in Coimbatore.

IT Quiz which was conducted on 1st August 2016 witnessed active participation of students from all streams. There were 3 rounds which consisted Multiple- choice questions, Picture puzzle and Logo identification.

The inaugural function of the Association was scheduled on 26th August 2016 at 1.30 pm, Ms Pushpalatha (Head of Compliance, ANZ) along with our Principal Fr Dr Ambrose Pinto S J and our Manager Fr.Vinoo Fabian was amidst us to grace the occasion. All BCA students (I, II and III year) under the guidance of Ms Anita and Ms Saranya Mahendran visited ‘Rakshana Charitable trust’ on 28th September 2016.

➟ Teaching methods adopted to improve student learning

Written /Oral tests – The College conducts 1st round internals and Preparatory Examination to monitor the students performance.

Assignments/Remedial classes – Assignments and Remedial work is given for students whose performance is unsatisfactory to pay individual attention in improving their ability.

PTA Meeting - A special interest is taken to meet the parents of students whose test/exam marks are below average and attendance below 75%. Feedbacks on student’s progress and areas of need are conveyed to the parents. The overall purpose of PTA meeting is to make every student’s potential a reality by working collaboratively.
